About the Corinthian Sailing Association
The Corinthian Sailing Association of Lake Pontchartrain was established in 1983 as a non-profit club by a group of avid sailors, whose principal purpose was to provide a low-cost venue for racing sailboats on Lake Pontchartrain.
CSA sponsors about 26 races a year, including 12 “championship” races in four series spread throughout the year to determine “Boat of the Year” honors. Other races sponsored by CSA include; the ever-popular Spring Starlight Series which attracts about 100 participants, a Summer’s End twilight series, the Around the Lake 46nm nighttime race, a single-handed, a skipperette and several cruises to such exotic locations as Bayou Lacombe and Ship Island.
In addition to racing, the Corinthians promote the knowledge and expertise of seamanship and sailing through educational programs designed to make the sport of sailing safer and more exciting.
Today, 20 years later, the CSA has grown from 20 members to more than 80, among whom are listed some of the more respected sailors in the Gulf South.
But the CSA isn’t just about top-notch sailing; it’s also about first time skippers, beginners, and people who just want to get out on the water and have fun. CSA is a great place to start!
Membership in CSA is open to all sailors, regardless or race, creed, color, sex or ethnic origin.
In an effort to broaden membership and introduce more people to sailboat racing, dues are intentionally kept low. A boat owner’s 1 year membership is only $125.00, an associate membership only $50.00. New members will also pay an initiation fee of $25.00 and receive a new member kit which includes a shirt with the CSA logo and a subscription to our newsletter the Jibsheet.
The Corinthians are governed by a nine member Board of Directors, including a Commodore, Vice-Commodore, Rear-Commodore, Secretary, Treasurer and 4 at-large board members including the most recent past Commodore. Board meetings are held monthly and general membership meetings quarterly.
